Susan Gadsby lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba until the completion of her studies at the University of Manitoba. In 1979, Susan moved to Southern Ontario and began teaching Special Education for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. She earned her Visual Arts Specialist offered through York University and began teaching visual arts in 1993.
Throughout her teaching career, Susan has attended a variety of classes and workshops at the Dundas Valley School of Art (DVSA). She has worked in various mediums including oil, acrylics and watercolour as well as printmaking, graphics and ceramics, logo creation and collaboration on band CD designs and promotions in Granada, Spain. She continues to develop her skills at DVSA.
Since her retirement from teaching, Susan has enthusiastically begun painting full-time. Her passion for travelling to various parts of the world and learning about other cultures provides the motivation, experiences and resources for her current acrylic paintings. Susan’s abiding concern for cultural equality, human rights and the environment, both in Canada and around the world, drives her work.
Susan is a current member of the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton (WAAH), Hamilton Artists’ Inc. and the Sunrise Dundas Studio Group. She has participated in solo and group shows in Hamilton and Burlington. Her painting and graphics can be found on three continents.
